Colts Receiver Keenan Allen Arrested on DUI
The News
Indianapolis Colts wide receiver Keenan Allen was arrested early Sunday morning in downtown Indianapolis on preliminary drunken-driving allegations, hours after making his preseason debut for the team.
Jail records and an Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department report cited by FOX59 list two preliminary misdemeanor allegations: driving while intoxicated and driving while intoxicated endangering a person. Both are misdemeanors under Indiana law, the New York Post reported.
Police say the incident happened around 1 a.m. Sunday, August 30, in the 100 block of South Meridian Street, near West Maryland Street. Booking records identify a 34-year-old Keenan Allen matching the description of the Colts receiver.
No formal charges had been filed in online court records at the time of reporting, according to WTHR. An arrest and a booking record do not establish guilt.
Timeline
The Colts sign Allen, a six-time Pro Bowler entering his 14th NFL season, reuniting him with head coach Shane Steichen, who worked with him with the Chargers.
Allen makes his Colts debut in a 25-16 preseason loss to the Detroit Lions after missing all but one training camp practice. He plays three snaps and catches a 24-yard pass from quarterback Anthony Richardson Sr. on the second play of the game. The drive ends with a 36-yard field goal by Blake Grupe, and Allen leaves the game.
Allen is arrested in downtown Indianapolis, according to the police report and jail records.
The arrest becomes public through jail records and reporting by FOX59 and WTHR.
Reactions
The Colts issued a short statement after the arrest surfaced: "We are aware of the incident involving Keenan Allen last night. We are in the process of gathering more information and have no further comment at this time."
Allen had spoken after Saturday's game about getting back on the field. "It was good," he said, according to Colts.com. "Get out there, get your feet wet, play against some competition other than your defense and just get back in the groove of things."
WTHR said it contacted both the police department and the Colts for further comment.
What's Next
Prosecutors must decide whether to convert the preliminary allegations into formal charges in court. Until then, the case exists only as a booking record.
The Colts have not said whether the arrest affects Allen's status with the team, and the regular season is days away. The NFL's personal conduct policy allows the league to review player arrests separately from any criminal case.
More
Allen spent most of his career with the San Diego and Los Angeles Chargers and played for the Chicago Bears in 2024. He is a former Comeback Player of the Year with 1,055 career receptions, 12,051 receiving yards and 70 touchdowns, and entered this season in position to climb the NFL's all-time receptions list.
