FBI: Fake 49ers Player Defrauded 60+ Women
The News
The FBI says 35 more women have come forward as alleged victims of Daejon Love, a man accused of posing as a San Francisco 49ers player and an investor to take money from women he met on social media and dating apps.
That brings the total number of alleged victims in the federal case against Love and 18-year-old Taylor Chan to more than 60.
Investigators say $1.3 million was stolen from 26 known victims across at least four states.
The Charges
Each charge in the case carries up to 20 years in prison if the defendants are convicted.

The scheme begins, according to the FBI, with Love presenting himself as a 49ers player and investor to women online.
Love and Chan are arrested, ending the alleged scheme.
The FBI announces it has identified 35 additional women who say they were defrauded, pushing the case past 60 alleged victims.
Reactions
Doug Olson, the FBI special agent in charge in Portland, said the fraud was tailored to each victim individually, mixing fake personas, staged video calls and AI-reinforced false identities.
Olson said the bureau's worry is imitation: "Our concern is that this fraud could be replicated by other individuals out there victimizing other people in similar schemes."
He urged anyone deceived by Love or Chan to contact the Portland FBI and not to let embarrassment stop them.

The FBI says it is working to verify the 35 newly identified alleged victims and expects more people to come forward.
Love and Chan face the federal charges already filed against them, each carrying a maximum of 20 years in prison on conviction.
