Lt. Gov. Peggy Flanagan won Minnesota's Democratic Senate primary Tuesday, defeating Rep. Angie Craig in a race that pitted the party's progressive and centrist wings against each other.

She will face Republican nominee Royce Tafoya in November.

Flanagan, who has served as Gov. Tim Walz's lieutenant governor since 2019, was backed by Sen. Bernie Sanders and Rep. Ilhan Omar. Craig, a moderate, had drawn support from AIPAC.
The win extends a progressive winning streak in the Upper Midwest, following Abdul El-Sayed's Senate primary victory in Michigan last week. Flanagan, who is Native American, could become the first Native woman elected to the U.S. Senate.
