<p>Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps said Wednesday it fired ballistic missiles at a base used by the US military near Al Azraq, Jordan, according to an IRGC statement carried on Iranian state media and reported by Reuters.</p>
<p>Jordan said no one was hurt. Its account and Iran's do not match, and each belongs to the side that gave it.</p>

<p><strong>A US official, unnamed, speaking to Reuters:</strong> Iran's strikes in Jordan were ineffective and all American troops were accounted for.</p>
<p>The IRGC also said Wednesday that it attacked 10 ships — two US vessels and eight oil tankers — that were trying to cross what it called a "prohibited and unsafe" area of the Strait of Hormuz, Reuters reported. Iran additionally threatened oil tankers in Kuwaiti and Bahraini ports in a statement carried by state media, and a maritime security source told Reuters a liquefied natural gas tanker was damaged at the Emirati port of Khor Fakkan, though it was not clear who was responsible.</p>

<p>No on-record statement from US Central Command or the Pentagon about the strike on the base in Jordan appears in the sources reviewed for this story. The only US comment on it is from an unnamed official quoted by Reuters. The IRGC's claim of heavy damage is unverified and is contradicted by Jordan's own account.</p>
<p>There is no confirmed casualty figure of any kind from the strike, and no source reviewed identifies which US units are at the base.</p>

Central Command said Tuesday that US forces destroyed five Iranian crude oil carriers on Sept. 8 after attempted missile attacks on a US Navy warship over the previous two days, Reuters and Politico reported. CENTCOM posted video of the strikes and said no Americans were harmed. It described the tankers as part of a shadow network that funds the IRGC and its regional proxies. The US destroyed three Iranian tankers three days earlier, Politico reported.</p>
<p>Secretary of State Marco Rubio, speaking to reporters during a visit to Colombia, said: "Iran continues to try to hit US naval ships, and for every time they do that or try to do that, they're going to lose tankers."</p>

<p>Reuters describes a six-month-old war that began on Feb. 28 with joint US-Israeli attacks on Iran. Iran has hit US assets and allies in the region repeatedly during it, including in Jordan several times — one strike in July killed at least two US military personnel, according to Reuters.</p>
