JustWatch Launches Ad-Supported Streaming Service in October

The News
JustWatch Group, the company behind the streaming guide people use to find where a show or movie is playing, is launching a streaming service of its own.
The service, JustWatch TV, debuts in October, Variety reported Monday.
It is an advertising-based video on demand platform — AVOD — and will also sell titles transactionally, according to Deadline.
Viewers will get an assortment of TV shows and movies from select distributors and production houses, CNET reported.
Timeline
JustWatch Group's plan to launch JustWatch TV is reported by Variety, Deadline, The Hollywood Reporter and CNET.

Reactions
The trade press treated the move as a logical next step for a company that already tracks what is streaming where. The Hollywood Reporter summed up its coverage in two words: "It JustMakesSense."
Variety framed the launch as JustWatch Group's entry into the crowded AVOD market. Deadline noted the service will run on both ad-supported and transactional models, rather than a single subscription.
What's Next
JustWatch TV is scheduled to go live in October. The lineup of distributors and production houses supplying the service, and how it will sit alongside JustWatch's existing guide, will come into focus at launch.
More
JustWatch is best known as a search tool: users look up a title and the site tells them which platforms carry it, and at what price. Turning that guide into a destination puts the company in competition with the same ad-supported services it indexes.
