Nick Reiner Indicted for Lying-in-Wait Murder

Nick Reiner, 32, pleaded not guilty Wednesday after a Los Angeles County grand jury indicted him on two counts of murder in the stabbing deaths of his parents, actor-director Rob Reiner and photographer Michele Singer Reiner.
The indictment adds a new allegation that Reiner was "lying in wait" — ambushing his parents after watching and waiting to strike — inside their Brentwood, California, home.
Prosecutors also allege special circumstances of multiple murders and that Reiner personally used "a dangerous and deadly weapon, a knife."

Reactions
Los Angeles County District Attorney Nathan Hochman called the case "a profound betrayal by someone who was loved and trusted by the very people he is accused of killing."
Reiner has been held in custody since his arrest and was disciplined for allegedly hostile conduct toward jail staff, according to prosecutors.
What's Next
A pretrial hearing is scheduled for September 15.
The special circumstance allegations make Reiner eligible for the death penalty or life without parole. Prosecutors have not yet decided whether to seek capital punishment.
