The News
Marvins Antoine, an 18-year-old freshman running back at UMass Dartmouth, was stabbed to death early Saturday after an altercation in Providence, Rhode Island.
Antoine was attacked around 12:30 a.m. in a Wendy's parking lot on Charles Street and was pronounced dead upon arrival at a Rhode Island hospital.
A 19-year-old teammate was hospitalized with head and neck injuries that were not life-threatening. One suspect is in custody.
What Police Say
The Boston Globe reported that a fight inside a Providence restaurant spilled out into the street. Providence Police Major David Lapatin said the victims were likely 18 to 19 years old.
Antoine suffered stab wounds to his chest, according to initial reporting.

Antoine enrolls at UMass Dartmouth, roughly two weeks before his death. He does not appear in any of the Corsairs' first three games of the season.

News of the killing spread quickly through the college football world after the New York Post and TMZ reported Antoine's death on Saturday. The Post noted he was a 5-foot-10, 180-pound tailback from Boston who played his high school football at Durfee High School in Fall River, Massachusetts.

Providence Police are continuing their investigation into the stabbing. It is not yet clear what charges, if any, the suspect in custody will face.
UMass Dartmouth is scheduled to play at home Saturday against Bridgton Academy.
