Vance Offers Heckler Plane Ticket to Mexico

The News
Vice President JD Vance told a protester waving a Mexican flag to leave the country after the man interrupted his keynote speech at the Republican midterm convention in Dallas on Thursday night.
"Well, my friend, if you love Mexico so much, get your ass over there," Vance said, as security pulled the man from his perch near the side of the stage. Newsweek reported that Vance added he would buy the plane ticket.
Vance then told the crowd they had "just discovered the symbol of the far-left — an idiot waving … a Mexican flag at a protest," arguing the man should have been waving an American flag instead.
Timeline
The Republican National Committee holds the second day of its first-ever midterm convention at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, with President Donald Trump headlining and Vance among the final speakers.
Vance takes the stage, delivering a speech that repeatedly invoked the word "birthright," according to Raw Story, and that Fox News previewed as a personal address touching on the legacy of Charlie Kirk and on fatherhood.
A man in a purple shirt and beanie interrupts, throwing and waving a Mexican flag from near the stage. He also held up a Palestinian flag, according to Newsweek and the New York Post.
Boos fill the arena. One attendee screamed "get the f— out" at the protester, Newsweek's Alex Rouhandeh reported; some attendees initially took the flag for a Palestinian one and shouted "F— Palestine," the New York Post reported. Security drags the man away and Vance goes off script with his reply.
Reactions
The line landed with the room: the Daily Mail reported the comeback "sends the crowd wild," and the New York Post said the heckler "spiced up" the speech.
The Independent, which reported Vance offered to buy the protester a plane ticket to Mexico, framed the moment as a fiery comeback to a protester who had already been met with boos inside the Dallas stadium.
On the left, AlterNet dismissed the address as "a forgettable collection of platitudes," noting it came on the one-year anniversary of the assassination of conservative commentator Charlie Kirk. The Daily Beast wrote that "The Daily Show" had mocked Vance over repeated blunders in discussing the Sept. 11 attacks.
What's Next
Trump is headlining the convention as Republicans aim to rally support for their candidates ahead of the midterm elections on Nov. 3, roughly two months away.
Vance is already trading fire with candidates on the ballot: the New York Post reported he used the same speech to reignite his feud with Abdul El-Sayed, the Democratic Senate candidate in Michigan.
More
Speaking to Fox News earlier Thursday during the network's convention coverage, Vance said one objective of the gathering was to draw a contrast with Democrats, charging that "Democrats are running around campaigning with people who say that we deserved 9/11," according to Breitbart News.
Neither the protester nor his affiliation had been identified in the initial reports, which described the incident as still developing.
