Zelenskyy Offers Moscow Pause as Drones Batter Kyiv

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy said Ukraine is prepared to refrain from strikes on Moscow, effective immediately and running through the end of Sept. 7, provided Russia refrains from striking Kyiv over the same period, according to a field report by The Gateway Pundit citing Zelenskyy's own Telegram post.
The offer came after another night of jet-powered drone attacks on Kyiv and strikes across Ukraine on Sept. 5, as U.S. special envoys prepared to arrive in the capital.
Zelenskyy said Russian drones hit the Kyiv and Boryspil airports overnight and called the strikes a demonstrative response to the expected arrival of the American delegation.
He added that Kyiv is preparing its own response to the Russian attacks beginning next week.
Timeline
Russia ramps up the frequency of its air assaults on the Ukrainian capital using jet-powered drones that are harder to intercept, Bloomberg reported. The barrages now come around the clock rather than mostly at night, upending life for the city's more than 3 million inhabitants.
Russian forces launch another wave of jet-powered Geran/Shahed-type drones at Kyiv and the surrounding region, hitting warehouse buildings in the Bucha district with no injuries reported. In Boryspil, a drone strike sets fire to the roof of a nine-story residential building, injuring two women who were hospitalized; 15 residents were evacuated. A strike also sparks a fire in the Obukhiv district.
Russian drones strike the village of Lisne in the Bucha district, setting two private houses ablaze and damaging five residential buildings and three cars. Two people were killed and one injured.
A jet-powered drone strikes the private sector of the central Chuhuiv district in Kharkiv region, destroying a residential building, an outbuilding and a garage. Three people were killed, including an 11-year-old boy, and a woman was injured.
A Russian ballistic missile hits an industrial enterprise in Kamianske, in the Dnipropetrovsk region, killing four people and injuring five, according to regional military administration head Oleh Ganzha.
Zelenskyy posts the offer to halt strikes on Moscow through the end of Sept. 7 if Russia halts strikes on Kyiv.
Bloomberg reports on how Kyiv residents are adapting to round-the-clock attack, as U.S. envoys arrive for talks on ending the war.
Reactions
Zelenskyy framed the overnight airport strikes as a message aimed at Washington, calling them a demonstrative response to the expected arrival of the U.S. delegation, which had traveled to Kyiv after meetings in Moscow on ending the war.
For ordinary residents, the change is measured in logistics, not diplomacy. Kostyantyn Kuts, a 39-year-old neurologist who lives with his wife and two children in the Kyiv satellite town of Boryspil, told Bloomberg that travel from his home on the left bank of the Dnipro River to his work on the right bank has become impossibly unpredictable because of transport disruptions.
Ukraine's General Staff put Russian personnel losses at roughly 1,260 over the previous 24 hours. Ukraine did not disclose its own military losses for the period.
What's Next
Zelenskyy's proposed pause runs only through the end of Sept. 7, and he said Kyiv is preparing a response to Russia's attacks starting next week — meaning the offer expires almost as fast as it was made.
The U.S. special envoys' visit to Kyiv, which followed their trip to Moscow, is the immediate diplomatic test of whether either side is willing to stop hitting the other's capital.

The Damage Across Ukraine
In the Khmelnytskyi region, a Russian drone struck a residential building; the injury toll rose over the day to seven people, including a minor, four of whom were hospitalized. In Sumy Oblast, Shahed-type drones damaged non-residential buildings including a shopping mall, with no casualties reported, according to Zelenskyy. In Zhytomyr Oblast, a drone struck a local enterprise and sparked a fire.
Russian forces shelled 25 settlements across the Kharkiv region with KAB aerial bombs and drones, damaging warehouses, private houses and other buildings. In Zaporizhzhia city, massive drone attacks damaged homes and buildings across five districts, with six people injured. In Kherson, drone strikes on the city and the village of Molodizhne injured four people, and a separate strike in the Korabelnyi district injured two elderly men. In Mykolaiv Oblast, drones struck a shopping center, injuring two people including a 17-year-old girl. In Odesa, a warehouse that had been targeted before was hit again and caught fire.
Ukraine's Side of the Drone War
Kyiv is hitting back at Russia's economy rather than only its army. The Wall Street Journal reported on Sept. 6 that Ukraine is seeking to weaken its larger enemy by striking refineries, shipping terminals and e-commerce warehouses, and that the costs to Russia are adding up.
