The News

Apple released iOS 27 on Monday, shipping the long-delayed overhaul of Siri that the company has promised for more than a year.

The update landed alongside macOS 27 "Golden Gate," iPadOS 27, watchOS 27 and visionOS 27, according to The Verge.

The new assistant, called Siri AI, arrives as an opt-in beta and works only in English at launch. It is not available to users in the European Union or China, where Engadget reports the kinks are still being worked out.

What Siri AI Does

Siri AI can read what is on the screen and pull information out of a user's personal apps — a step beyond what the old assistant could do.

On the Mac, TechCrunch reports the revamped Siri puts Apple in direct competition with browser-based and third-party AI productivity tools.

Who Can Get It

iOS 27 installs on the iPhone 11 and later. Siri AI itself requires an iPhone 15 Pro or newer.

macOS 27 runs on every Mac with Apple Silicon. No Intel Macs are supported.

Apple also says app launches are up to 30 percent faster on the new software.

Reactions

TechCrunch's verdict was blunt in its headline: "With iOS 27, I'm actually using Siri again." The outlet wrote that the long-delayed overhaul "changes how useful the assistant feels day to day."

CNET, which says it has been running iOS 27 for months, was cooler: the release "doesn't feel like a total overhaul," but most of the changes "consistently nudge things in a good direction."

Engadget framed the launch around what is missing, noting the kinks are still being worked out for users in the EU and China.

What's Next

The five additional languages are due in October.

Refreshed MacBooks and iPads follow the Mac mini and Mac Studio later.

The open question is regulatory: Apple has not said when — or on what terms — Siri AI will reach users in the European Union and China.

More

The sourcing here does not split on the facts. Center-left outlets have focused on Siri AI's productivity features and how they stack up against rival AI tools, while center outlets have emphasized the breadth of smaller quality-of-life changes in the release.
