DC Crime Falls After Trump Takeover

Crime in Washington, D.C. has fallen significantly since President Trump announced federal control over the city’s law enforcement operations, according to data released by the D.C. Police Union.

Crime Statistics Before vs. After Federal Control

Comparing the seven days prior to the announcement with the period since, major reductions were reported across multiple categories:

• Robbery: down 46%
• Assault with a Dangerous Weapon (ADW): down 6%
• Carjackings: down 83%
• Car thefts: down 21%
• Violent crime overall: down 22%
• Property crime: down 6%
• All crimes combined: down 8%

The union noted that while federal resources have boosted enforcement, long-term success requires repealing the city’s Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Act, which they argue undermines officers’ ability to fight crime effectively.

Federal Crackdown Results

A White House official told the Daily Caller that since the launch of Trump’s operation 11 days ago, there have been over 380 arrests. Among those taken into custody:

• 59 firearms seized
• More than 160 illegal aliens arrested, including gang members and suspects charged with crimes such as assault, kidnapping, burglary, larceny, sexual offenses, and drug trafficking

The official said that just last night, 22 multi-agency teams—with nearly 1,950 personnel—were deployed across all seven districts of the city.

Push for Long-Term Change

The Trump administration argues that these short-term results prove the effectiveness of federal intervention but stress that lasting progress will only come if D.C. rolls back its “misguided” policing reforms.

For now, violent crime in the nation’s capital is down sharply—marking one of the steepest immediate declines in recent years.
