Murder Suspect Morphew Jailed After Hit-and-Run

Barry Morphew, the Colorado man awaiting trial on a first-degree murder charge in the death of his wife, was jailed Friday after prosecutors said he caused a hit-and-run crash involving two other vehicles in Denver.
Morphew had been free on $3 million bond. Prosecutors say the trip that ended in the Aug. 28 crash broke the terms of his release, which barred him from traveling away from his home in southern Colorado except for work and other limited circumstances.
He was booked into the Boulder County Jail. Alamosa County District Judge Amanda Hopkins set a hearing on his bond for Tuesday, according to online records.

Her skeletal remains are found off a dirt road in southern Colorado. By then earlier charges against Barry Morphew had been dropped; he was charged again with first-degree murder in her death and arrested.

Prosecutors say Morphew is involved in a crash with two other vehicles during a trip to Denver International Airport, possibly to pick up his daughter, and leaves the scene.
Morphew is arrested and booked into the Boulder County Jail.
Reactions
District Attorney Anne Kelly laid out the alleged violation in a court filing. "To go to the airport for any purpose other than work constitutes a breach of his bond," the filing read.
Morphew has pleaded not guilty to the murder charge.
His attorneys did not immediately respond to phone and email messages seeking comment Friday, the Associated Press reported.
What's Next
Judge Hopkins holds a hearing Tuesday to decide what happens to Morphew's bond. He remains in the Boulder County Jail until then.
His murder trial is scheduled for next summer.
