Netanyahu Nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday told US President Donald Trump he had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, handing Trump a nomination letter during a meeting at the White House.

Speaking to reporters at the beginning of their meeting, Netanyahu said Israel was working with the United States to find countries who would give Palestinians a better future.

"I wanted to express deep appreciation and admiration, not only of all Israelis, but of the Jewish people," Netanyahu said. "The president has already realized great opportunities. He forged the Abraham Accords, he's forging peace as we speak with one country and one region after the other. I want to present to you, Mr. President, a letter that I sent tot he Nobel prize committee. It's nominating you for the peace prize."

When asked about a two-state solution by a reporter, Netanyahu stated that the Palestinians should have the powers to govern themselves but not the power to harm us."

Trump says Iran wants to talk, Witkoff says talks to take place next week

"I hope [the war] is over," Trump replied to a journalist who had asked him if the war between Israel and Iran was over or not. "I think Iran wants to meet...I think they want to make peace. And I'm all for it. Now, if that's not the case, we are ready, willing, and able."

US special envoy Steve Witkoff also stated that talks between the United States and Iran on its nuclear program would resume next week.

Netanyahu expected to ask Trump to greenlight future Iran strikes

An Israeli official told The Jerusalem Post on Sunday that Netanyahu will ask Trump for a "green light" to take action against any Iranian activity related to Tehran's rebuilding of its nuclear program.

"The goal is to receive a mandate similar to the situation in Lebanon, meaning that if suspicious activity is detected at nuclear sites, or if there's evidence of uranium being removed from the areas that were hit by US and Israeli warplanes, there would already be prior US approval to act against it," the official added.

Meeting with leaders from the Trump administration

Netanyahu met with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio on Monday at Blair House in Washington. The two first held a meeting with their teams, followed by a private meeting.

The prime minister also met with the US Special Envoy to the Middle East, Steve Witkoff.

"This evening, I met at Blair House in Washington with the US Secretary of State, Marco Rubio," Netanyahu said in a post on X. "We held a substantive and important conversation about strengthening the alliance between Israel and the US, and about the shared challenges we face in the regional and international arena."

Before departing for Washington on Sunday, Netanyahu told reporters, "We must remain vigilant against Iran’s attempts to renew its pursuit of nuclear weapons aimed at our destruction."
